ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Crossing cultures, crossing time: Artefact is a collaborative project between Oxford Brookes Art Foundation, The Ashmolean Museum and The OVADA Gallery.
The Ashmolean was founded in 1683 and houses world famous art and artefacts. Its global collection, spanning half a million years of human history, has naturally led to varied and exciting artistic responses. Some artists have also considered the history and practice of the museum itself, and its role in education and society. Our exhibition will offer a lens through which the collection can be viewed: whilst respecting historicity, we seek to create a dialogue between these objects and contemporary art practice. Artefact will showcase the very best reflections and interpretations of the collection.
We are delighted to be able to work with OVADA to realise this exhibition. OVADA is an invaluable resource for the community, providing learning opportunities, exhibitions and studio space, as well as leading the Warehouse Art School. This environment of exploration and learning is a perfect platform for our work.
This project celebrates an interdisciplinary approach to Fine Art. We have discovered interesting facets of cultures and times from all over the globe, which are dynamic stimuli for our art. Without the Ashmolean’s information and resources, this project would not have been possible.
Artefact is a free exhibition running at the OVADA Warehouse from 10-14 February.
